L-Fun 45, awarded as the second best music game of the year.

Well, we have created the second best music game of the year for iOS, trust me. iOS means Apple devices. And we achieved it with almost no marketing costs. If we are lucky, there a lot of more upcoming great news related to this game.

Videogames: Pirate assault.

This is a new painted background done for the pig themed videogame, one of the iPhone related projects we are working on at Dolores Entertainment. I am pretty sure that this is the most surrealistic way to rob a bank ever seen...

L-Fun 45. A game from Elefant Records and Dolores Entertainment.

It's here, is here. This is the project our small company, Dolores Entertainment, has been working in the last six months: L-FUN 45. An interactive musical play based on ELEFANT RECORDS music bands. Elefant is a spanish record company of indie pop bands scattered thorough the world; Spain, Korea, Japan, England, etc... One of their very best known bands in Spain, Korea and Japan is La Casa Azul, which needs no introduction.

We proposed to develop a different musical videogame. A rythm videogame that included powerful characters and story, something no other game of the genre offers to the players. A character based plot that tied the players to the game as much as their favorite music  and the experience of gaming over an iPhone touch screen.

The final result? A cutting edge visual appeal, charismatic characters and an ideal game for fans and non fans of these groups, which is probably currently one of the very best and well rounded games at the Apple AppStore. By the moment, it´s available the first chapter of the story.

Also we produced two animated ads, used to promote the game and characters which were coming up:

Is a difficult issue to define where the roles of core team members begins and ends at this project because of the deep interactions in the day to day working; Daniel Parejo Navarro, Stephen Husworth and myself (Andres Vidal Alarcón), each of us working in a different city and communicating by Skype.

I am the only one to blame on the following points:

  • First treatment  of a musical story.
  • Original character design, which were remaded by Stephen in a new style.
  • Secondary characters animations: this is the first time I've done a complete 2D animation after years animating 3D characters. I hope to do more of this kind in the next release.
  • Almost all painted backgrounds of the game.
  • Graphic design and visual FX.
  • Backgrounds, postproduction and film cut for the three video ads.

Improving as an illustrator: Diving class.

From time to time I need to draw something unrelated to any project in order to try new techniques, ideas, or simply improving my skills. Sometimes if you don´t have an idea that excites you and makes you "see" what you want to do, starting is a problem, especially if there are other jobs awaiting. Ideas happen frequently when I go to sleep, wake up or just walking with my dog at night.

I saw this picture in my mind when is was waking up, still asleep, some days ago. I guess it was originated from feeling of floating in the dream and the fact that i see to much a lot of kids lately at my Karate teacher practices. Also, I had a great time drawing jokes and details here and there; if not, I get bored drawing.

In this illustration I see a noticeable progress in character posing, with an improvement in dynamics, rythm and flow; improvements also in color and light treatment. In any case, there is still a lot of work and learning ahead and I have also to define more my own style, but all the work done in the last year and a half its starting to worth the price.
